Must read

UMUAHIA, Nigeria – Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has warmly welcomed the recent judgment of the Supreme Court, which invalidated the leadership of the Julius Abure-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the Labour Party (LP).

Governor Otti believes the ruling is a crucial step towards restoring peace, unity, and order within the Labour Party.

In a statement issued following the judgment, Governor Otti emphasized that the Supreme Court’s decision validated the party’s leadership structure, asserting that the tenure of the Abure-led NWC had already expired.

According to the governor, this decision would allow for a much-needed restructuring of the party and pave the way for a new leadership that would better reflect the party’s original principles and commitment to democracy.

Otti underscored that the formation of a National Caretaker Committee, led by seasoned political figures Esther Nenadi Usman and Darlington Nwokocha, is an important measure aimed at ensuring peace and fostering unity within the party.

The Caretaker Committee’s role will be to oversee the proper functioning of the party while working toward strengthening its organizational structure.

He also stated that this new arrangement would facilitate the necessary rebuilding process, giving the party a fresh start after the internal struggles of recent times.

The Abia governor further extended an invitation to former national officers of the party to collaborate with the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the newly-formed Caretaker Committee in order to move the Labour Party forward.

Otti stressed that unity and cooperation are essential for ensuring the party’s success, especially after the challenges it has faced in recent months.

He urged party members to rally behind the new leadership to achieve the common goal of revitalizing the party and ensuring its relevance in Nigerian politics.

Governor Otti also made it clear that the leadership of the Labour Party is committed to building a more inclusive organization that will operate in the best interests of all members, free from discrimination and favoritism.

He reiterated that the party must focus on becoming a strong, democratic force that represents the interests of the people, particularly those who have been disenfranchised by the establishment.

In his final remarks, the governor commended the Supreme Court for its fair and impartial judgment, which he believes aligns with the aspirations of genuine Labour Party members and the Nigerian public.

Otti also took the opportunity to thank those who have remained faithful to the party throughout its internal challenges, acknowledging their resilience and dedication to the Labour Party’s vision.

This ruling is seen as a turning point for the Labour Party, providing it with an opportunity to heal and rebuild its foundation for future electoral successes.
