JOS, Nigeria – Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, on Saturday, April 12, 2025, visited communities in Bokkos and Mangu Local Government Areas (LGAs) recently devastated by bandit attacks.

The assault, which took place on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, led to the loss of many lives and widespread destruction, including the razing of several homes.

Mutfwang, deeply moved by the devastation, acknowledged the profound loss the state had experienced.

During his visit, he spoke emotionally about the tragedy, particularly when he stood at the mass grave site in Bokkos, where many victims of the attack were laid to rest.

“When I stood at the mass grave site in Bokkos, I felt the full weight of what we have lost. I promised then, and I promise now, that a memorial will be erected to honor those lives unjustly taken. Their memory will not fade,” Mutfwang said, addressing the grieving community.

The governor also visited the St. Thomas Apostle Catholic Church, which has become a refuge for the displaced.

He commended the church for its role as a sanctuary, reassuring the displaced residents that their suffering would not be forgotten.

“I saw courage in the eyes of the displaced,” Mutfwang said. “I thank the church for being a sanctuary, and I commit that you will not remain displaced for long. Help is on the way.”

To address the destruction, Mutfwang announced that he had directed local authorities and security agencies to begin a thorough documentation and enumeration of all land and properties in the affected communities.

The goal is to ensure fairness and justice in assessing claims related to the destruction and resettlement efforts.

He also appealed to the people of Plateau to remain resilient, emphasizing that unity and faith, rather than violence and fear, would lead the state to recovery.

“Let the world know: Plateau will rise again not by violence, but by resilience. Not by fear, but by faith. Not by division, but by unity,” Mutfwang stated.
