Governor Fintiri vs. PDP Stakeholders: A Brewing Storm Over Adamawa’s Appointment List

Must read

ADAMAWA, Nigeria – Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has criticized stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state for not adhering to his instructions on political appointments.

The Governor stated his refusal to accept any list for political appointments that he deemed “mechanically fabricated”.

Governor Fintiri alleged that the party stakeholders disregarded his earlier directives, which required them to present their best candidates for political appointments through proper consultations with their constituents.

In a post on his verified Twitter handle on Saturday, June 3, 2023, the Governor highlighted the importance of inclusive representation.

He affirmed his commitment to ensuring that everyone is adequately represented.

Governor Fintiri said, “I will not accept any mechanically fabricated list from @OfficialPDPNig stakeholders in Adamawa, who disregarded my earlier directives to present their best 11 for political appointment through proper consultations with their constituents.”

He further warned that any list not adhering to the criteria or instructions he had previously issued would be rejected, stating, “It is essential to ensure that everybody is carried along for a proper representation.

Any list that does not meet the criteria or instructions I previously laid down will be rejected.”

Governor Fintiri Claims Battle Was Against Abuja, Not Binani

Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the governor of Adamawa State, has said his opponent in the just concluded governorship elections was not just Aishatu ‘Binani’ Dahiru of the All Progressives Congress, APC, power individuals in Abuja, who wanted to impose her on the state.

Recall that the returning officer of the election, Professor Muhammed Mele, said the governor polled a total of 430,861 votes, while Binani polled 396,788 votes.

The collation was suspended on Sunday, following the controversial declaration of Binani as the winner by the now-suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Hudu Yunusa Ari.

Reacting to the event in an interview with Channels TV Politics Today, on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, Fintiri said he contested against the “whole system”.

“I contested against the whole system. I contested against those who feel they own Nigeria from Abuja and they feel they can make Adamawa a scapegoat.

“Even in the election, I didn’t go into the election against the woman, I went into the election against INEC. The whole presiding officers that were conducting the election, all of them were APC members,” Fintiri stated.

He added that his performance in the last four years gave him an edge against the forces that battled him from Abuja.
