AKURE, Nigeria — Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has promptly resumed his official duties less than 48 hours after returning from a medical vacation.

On Friday, September 8, 2023, the Governor assented to a bill that establishes 33 new Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs, in the state, bringing the total number of local councils in Ondo State to 51.

The bill was presented to Governor Akeredolu by Speaker Oladiji Olamide in a brief ceremony at the state government house.

Fulfilling Campaign Promises

According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Richard Olatunde, the signing of the bill into law is in line with Governor Akeredolu’s campaign promises.

It aims to fulfill the aspirations of Ondo State residents for more localized development.

In his remarks, Governor Akeredolu expressed his gratitude to the people of the state for their support and prayers during his medical leave.

“The love and prayers were potent enhancers which aided my recovery and deepened my abiding faith in God and service to humanity,” he said.

Deputy Governor Commends Akeredolu’s Commitment

Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who had acted as Governor in Akeredolu’s absence, praised the Governor’s dedication to the state.

Aiyedatiwa disclosed that the Governor was in constant touch with the state government during his medical leave, showing his ongoing concern for the state’s welfare.

“The fact that the Governor has resumed duties immediately after returning to the country testifies to his commitment to the mandate given to him twice by the people of Ondo State,” said Aiyedatiwa.

The Deputy Governor further added that Governor Akeredolu’s quick return to work demonstrated his resolve to serve the people of Ondo State until the last day of his administration.

“As we welcome Mr. Governor back to the office, I pray that God Almighty will continue to protect, guide, and grant him strength as he leads the people of Ondo State toward transformational development,” Aiyedatiwa concluded.

The Governor’s swift return to work and the expansion of local governance structures could mark a positive turn for the state’s development agenda.

As Ondo State moves forward, eyes will be on how these new LCDAs will impact grassroots development and governance in the region.
