Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has renamed Liberation Stadium and the Old Aba Road after former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, Governor Wike said the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt, “Is now to be known as Yakubu Gowon Stadium. The Old Aba Road is also to be known as Yakubu Gowon Road.”
Governor Wike had on Saturday, December 5, 2015 promised to immortalise Gowon for creating Rivers State during his tenure in 1967.
