Former President Goodluck Jonathan has met with two former military heads of state, Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar in Minna, the Niger State capital, on Tuesday, September 13, 2016.
Jonathan was accompanied on the trip by his former chief of staff, Mike Oghiadomhe.
The meetings, held behind closed doors, are of a “strategic nature”, according to a source familiar with the situation.
“The situation in the country calls for a lot of critical thinking and strategic consultations. Gone are the days when it was the case of only the poor crying, the elite class are also feeling the heat and there have been direct and indirect calls on former President Jonathan to return to power in 2019 to salvage Nigeria from the current mess. I won’t say more than that”, a source told an online newspaper, Signal.
However, a source close to former President Goodluck Jonathan says that the visits to the retired military generals were “ordinary” and “in the spirit of Eid-el-Kabir”.
