TAMALE, Ghana – Alban Bagbin, the speaker of the Ghanaian Parliament, has on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, vehemently expressed his opposition to the legalisation of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer, LGBTQ, activities in Ghana, promising never to support any such initiative during his tenure.
Speaking with journalists in Tamale, Ghana, Bagbin pledged to resist the recognition of homosexual rights staunchly and affirmed that such requests will not be legalised during his term.
He cited the decline of the indigenous population in most European countries, attributing it to the influence of the LGBTQ+ community and called for an immediate cessation of queer activities to contain this decline.
“For you all to participate in it, count me out of Ghana because I would prefer to join my Maker than to live,” Bagbin stated unequivocally.
A devout Catholic and pro-life advocate, Bagbin expressed his belief that embracing LGBTQ+ rights and behaviours would lead to an end of the world scenario contrary to his faith’s teachings.
“They have the repercussions in their country, and I can tell you that in the next 50 years, there will be no indigenous European in the world,” Bagbin cautioned.
In addition, the Speaker revealed that the anti-gay bill will be enacted under his leadership.
He believes the legislation aligns with the country’s family values and upholds what is regarded as “normal”.
He also expressed confidence that the bill would not violate the provisions of the 1992 Constitution.
“The Bill recognises our family values, accepts what we call normal and not abnormal, and protects those who are caught by nature or whatever.
So we will pass the legislation that we believe will not offend the position of the 1992 Constitution,” Bagbin concluded.
