Media mogul, Mo Abudu celebrated her 50th birthday on Saturday, September 13, 2014 in a society event at the grand ballroom of the Oriental Hotel in Lagos.
Celebrities and icons of industry were present to celebrate with Abudu, who is Chairman and CEO of EbonyLife TV, Africa’s first Global Black Entertainment and Lifestyle network.
The black tie and glam event started with red carpet. The event was tagged “Mo@ 50…Celebrating Sisterhood” with the aim of celebrating women of distinction in different categories of life and business. 10 categories of unsung heroes were awarded for their quiet but extraordinary and exemplary achievements.
Guests at the event included Nigeria’s A-list set Genevive Nnaji, Tiwa Savage, Funke Akindele, Basket Mouth, Julius Agwu, Iyanya, Tonye Cole, Donald Duke, Dele Momodu, Adesuwa Onyenokwe, Abike Dabiri, Joseph Benjamin, Uti Nwachukwu, Bode Pedro, Uche Pedro, Niyola, Ebuka Obi Uchendu, Pastor Ituah, Mai Atafo, Olisa Adibua, amongst others.
The event also had a roll call of political dignitaries like Governor of Ondo state, Olusegun Mimiko, Governor of Cross rivers state and his wife, Liyel Imoke and Mrs Obioma Imoke, Donald Duke and others.
Performers were Tiwa Savage, Chidinma, Seyi Shay, Yinka Davies, Ara, Efya from Ghana, Waje, and others.
Mo Abudu has been described as inspiration and a beacon of hope to many, has been honoured with many laurels including the Awards by Forbes Media recognising her as the first African woman to launch a Pan-African TV channel; Entrepreneur of the year by Women Werk in New York; 25 Most Powerful women in Global TV by the Hollywood Reporter amongst many other awards. Most recently, she was honoured with an Honorary Doctorate Degree (Honoris Causa) from Babcock University.
