Another episode in the ongoing drama that is the trip of the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari to the UK on Sunday, February 22, 2015 as the the former Military Head of State failed to show up at a meeting put together by hundreds of General Buhari’s supporters in the UK led by one Austin Ogaga Amaechi.
The event which took place at Park Plaza Hotel in Westminster had General Buhari’s wife, Aishati Buhari standing in for her husband. Also present was the wife of Yemi Osinbajo, – General Buhari’s running mate – Dolapo Osinbajo and a number of other APC dignitaries.
The inability of the APC flag bearer to appear at the event caused a stir as it further gives credence to reports that the retired General was in the UK for medical reasons, and not for a series of meetings, as claimed by the APC camp.
Some APC members in the UK said that Mrs. Buhari was not the right person to speak ion burning national issues and would have liked her husband to speak to them.
They also felt that it was wrong for General Buhari to disregard an event organised by Nigerians in diaspora when he purportedly had time for a meeting with former British prime Minister, Tony Blair, a claim that has been reportedly discovered to be untrue., as Blair confirmed his presence in Serbia as at the time it was claimed that General Buhari held a meeting with him.
