The former military Head of State and three-time presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari has paid for the presidential ticket form for the All Progressive Congress (APC) at the party’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, October 16, 2014.
Accompanied by party stalwart and former Minister of the FCT, Nasir El-Rufai and a host of supporters, General Buhari paid the fee of N27.5 million and received the form from the party’s national chairman, John Oyegun.
The fee for the party’s presidential ticket form has been criticised for being too high and the Oyegun used the opportunity to defend the price tag. “The N27.5 million is to seperate the men from the boys,” he said as the he handed Buhari, the form.
In response, Buhari made it known that he paid for the form by himself, “I do not want to ask anyone to pay for my nomination form, i always want to pay for the forms myself, even during the last elections I have paid it myself.”
This event comes a day after the former army general declared his intention to run for the presidential ticket of the APC at the Eagles Square, Abuja.
Former Bayelsa governor, Timipre Sylva handed over the Union Bank cheque as payment for the form to the national organising secretary of the party, Senator Osita Izunaso.
Buhari becomes the second candidate to pick a form for the presidential race in the APC.
