The President-elect General Muhammadu Buhari while receiving a committee from the Centre for Human Security of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential library on Thursday, May 14, 2015 has accused the outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan of not offering him any useful tip to help him start off his administration come.
The committee was at the Buhari Support Organisation office to present to him a five point policy document in Abuja.
“Buhari regretted that the outgoing government that is supposed to give him tips on how to take off has done nothing so far,” the Director of Media and Publicity of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation, Garba Shehu, told reporters after the presentation by the committee.
He added that the President-elect “thanked the Obasanjo initiative for the gesture, assuring the committee that his incoming administration will be needing advice as time goes on.”
Areas such as the economy, security, power, education and infrastructure were all covered by the document. He also asserted that committees had been set up by former President Obasanjo to carry out a study on those areas. According to him the study had commence about four months ago just “so that the outcome will be made available to the incoming administration after the election.”
He revealed that the head of the committee on power, Dr. Christopher Kolade, Nigeria’s former High Commissioner to the UK gave various stages of the proposed development of the power sector including short, medium and long term solutions. The short term plan seeks to raise the power generation of the nation to 10,000 MW.
He added that the president-elect described the initiative of setting up these committees by Obasanjo as a great force to move the incoming government along.
The vice-chairman of the committee, who is a former Minister of Finance, Kalu Idika Kalu, said, “We have looked at education, security, economy, power and Infrastructure. Those are the areas we have made recommendations and which we hope the new administration would be able to work on.” He explained the president-elect’s joyfulness at seeing that they had made efforts to help him kick start his administration.
Akin Mabogunje, the Chairman of the centre’s governing board, also speaking to journalists after the event, said the committee had been working on a number of critical issues for the development of the country. He said that a delegation of committee members had been sent to present their findings to the president elect.
