It quoted Buhari as saying the EU and the U.S. played key roles in the elections.

“I commend the EU nations and the U.S. for playing key roles in the stabilisation of Nigeria in this critically important and challenging period.

“I promise to pay attention to areas that will enhance the existing bilateral relations between the two countries.’’

In the statement, the Italian President congratulated Buhari on his victory and commended Nigerians for the peaceful conduct of the elections.

It stated that Italy was prepared to assist Nigeria in managing domestic terrorism, drawing from their own experience with internal terror in the 1970s and 1980s.

Also, it said the Nigerian community in Oman had welcomed Buhari’s victory in the presidential election, describing the outcome as one that had brought happiness to everyone in their community.
