The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command has refuted the allegation that a policeman attached to Femi Gbajabiamila killed a newspaper vendor in Abuja.
The incident occurred within the Three Arm Zone on Thursday, November 19, 2020, when the House of Representatives Speaker’s convoy was on the move.
Gbajabiamila has confirmed the death, disclosing that the officer who fired the fatal shot has been suspended.
In a statement made available to journalists on Friday, November 20, 2020, Mariam Yusuf, the public relations officer, FCT Command, clarified that the security agent was not a police operative.
“Contrary to the misleading information, preliminary investigation into the unfortunate incident reveals that the security aide who shot at the vendor is not a member of the Nigeria Police Force.”
Yusuf added that the Commissioner of Police in FCT, Bala Ciroma has ordered an investigation into the incident.
The spokesperson commiserated with family and friends of the deceased.
The statement assured that the police will be lucid in its investigation and ensure the findings are made public.
