The leading candidate for the position of the speaker of the house of representative, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila has been dragged before an Abuja High Court by two lawyers representing the Registered Trustees of Social Justice and Civil Rights Awareness Initiative.
They are seeking an injunction restraining the minority leader of the house from being a member of the house of representative.
In an affidavit in support of the originating summons, the lawyers reported to the court that Gbajabiamila was convicted in the United States in the state of Georgia for unethical practices and was debarred for 36 months on 26 February, 2007 by the Supreme Court of Georgia. It is also alleged that Gbajabiamila possesses an American passport as a citizen which supposes that he has pledged his allegiance to another country contrary to the provision of section 66(1) (a) of the constitution.
