KADUNA, Nigeria – Abdullahi Ganduje, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) paid a visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Kaduna State on Friday, April 11, 2025.
The visit came hours after opposition leaders, led by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, had met with Buhari earlier in the day.
Atiku’s delegation included prominent figures such as Nasir el-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna; Aminu Tambuwal, the former governor of Sokoto; and Isa Pantami, the former minister of communications.
Speaking to the press after their meeting, el-Rufai downplayed any political motives behind the visit, assuring critics that it was not a political maneuver.
While the details of Ganduje’s visit to Buhari remain undisclosed, the timing of the APC NWC’s trip raises eyebrows given the recent political activities surrounding Buhari and his affiliation with the APC.
This visit comes just days after Buhari had welcomed a delegation of APC governors, led by Hope Uzodimma, the governor of Imo State.
The governors, who are part of the Progressives Governors Forum, said their visit was to extend Sallah greetings and congratulate Buhari on the successful conclusion of Ramadan.
Concerns have recently surfaced regarding the potential departure of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) faction, which was one of the founding parties that merged in 2013 to form the APC.
Buhari, who was a key figure in the CPC, has been the subject of speculation regarding his continued allegiance to the APC.
However, he has publicly reiterated his commitment to the party, stating that he would never abandon it.
As these political dynamics continue to unfold, APC Senator Ali Ndume has raised alarm over the growing influence of opposition leaders and cautioned President Bola Tinubu to be wary of any potential alignment between Buhari and the opposition coalition.
The outcome of Ganduje’s visit and any potential shifts in political alliances will likely become clearer in the coming days, as discussions within the APC and among opposition figures intensify.
