Police Apprehend 20-Year-Old Fulani Herdsman In Connection With Attakwu Attack

The Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Police have announced the apprehension of one of the suspected Fulani herdsmen that attacked Ndiagu Attakwu-Akagbeugwu community in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State on Thursday, August 25, 2016.

The suspect arrested by the police is believed to be part of the Fulani herdsmen militia group that attacked Attakwu-Akagbeugwu community, leaving Lazarus Nwafor, a Catholic seminarian, dead and four others seriously wounded.

According to New Telegraph, some of the wounded victims are on life support at Mother of Christ Hospital and Enugu State University Teaching Hospital.

In a statement by Superintendent (SP) Ebere Amariazu, the Enugu State Police Relations (PPRO), said that the suspect apprehended is  known as Umaru Isah from Gusau in Zamfara State.

“His arrest came through intelligence information gathered. The said suspect who claimed that he is 20 years old revealed that he came in from Gusau in Zamfara State to Enugu recently  for the purposes of rearing cattle but had none to rear till now,” Amariazu said.

“Meanwhile investigations have commenced fully into his alleged nefarious activities and with a view to unmasking his gang members so that they can be brought to book. The state’s commissioner of police, Emmanuel Ojukwu, has vowed to unmask all those involved in the dastardly act and bring them to book.”
