Fuel Shortages in Anambra as Stations Shut Down in Face-off With Soludo

Must read

AWKA, Nigeria – The Independent Petroleum Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, shut down filling stations in Anambra on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, sparking panic across major towns in the state.

The shutdown led to a hike in fares by many motorists, while several residents were forced to resort to walking.

However, Mr. Chinedu Anyaso, Chairman of IPMAN, Enugu depot, which covers six states including Anambra, explained that the closure was not intended to cause harm or increase the pump price of petrol.

In a phone interview, Anyaso clarified that the shutdown was aimed at ensuring all IPMAN members attended an emergency general meeting in Awka.

The meeting was convened to discuss the recent marking of about 16 filling stations in Ekwulobia, which were designated for demolition to make way for the construction of a proposed flyover and adjoining roads.

“Sixteen filling stations were marked for demolition in the Ekwulobia area by the Anambra State Government to make way for a proposed flyover construction and adjoining roads. Our members are willing to comply, but there needs to be an agreement from the government regarding compensation as these facilities are the only source of income for their owners,” Anyaso stated.

According to Anyaso, IPMAN has reached out to the Anambra State Government about the issue but has not yet received a response.

The emergency meeting was therefore organized to discuss further engagement strategies for the benefit of its members and the motoring public.
