No fewer than 11 persons were left dead on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 during an armed robbery attack which lasted for about four hours in a bank located at the centre of the ancient city of Ikare Akoko in Ondo State.
A source who claimed to have witnessed the incident said the robbers stormed the city around 1PM in two vehicles painted in army colours and also clad in army uniforms.
They were said to have shot at the riot policemen at the bank, killing four of them, while a 10-year old girl was found dead near the bank, Punch reports.
“We also saw six other persons lying lifeless around the ATM area of the bank,”said the source.
The armed assailants practically turned the bank inside out during the attack and destroyed the vaults with dynamites as they looted some amount of money which is yet to be specified.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Wole Ogodo, said the command was yet to get the details of the attack since they had been quite engaged at the airport following President Jonathan’s visit to Abuja from Ekiti state.
