Former Green Eagles Star, Odegbami To Join FIFA Presidential Race

Nigerian football legend, Chief Segun Odegbami has indicated his interest to vie for the presidency of football’s ruling body FIFA in the 2016 elections.

‘Mathematical’ as Chief Odegbami was referred to during his playing days indicated his intention to run for the FIFA top job on Tuesday.  According to the former Green Eagles player, the current scandal facing FIFA is the worst in the federation’s 111 years of existence.

In a statement issued, Odegbami called for a new era in football’s apex body:

“Moving forward, FIFA thus requires a new era of leadership that can restore the dignity of the noble sport.

“The world is very interested in who becomes the next president of FIFA considering the present images and state of this institution.

“I see myself fitting into this role.”

Odegbami is the second Nigerian being tipped for the presidency of FIFA. Former Abia state governor, Orji Uzor Kalu is also expected to run for the position in the February 26, 2016 election which will take place in Zurich, Switzerland.

Sepp Blatter resigned as FIFA President in June 2015.
