A former minister of state for education, Senator Iyabo Anisulowo, was on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 kidnapped by armed men alongside her security aide along Igbogila Road in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Anisulowo, who was a senator between 2003 and 2007 and represented Ogun West Senatorial District at the National Assembly, was reportedly abducted while she was returning from her farm.
The victim reportedly celebrated her 70th birthday some weeks back in Ilaro, the headquarters of Yewaland, and was being rumoured to be nursing gubernatorial ambition in 2019.
Confirming the incident, the Ogun State’s police public relations officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the command got a report that Anisulowo was kidnapped on Wednesday evening by armed men. He said, “Yes. We have the report that the senator was kidnapped this evening by some armed men.
Adejobi said: “The state commissioner of police, Abdulmajid Ali, has despatched teams to the area, Ilaro, for the rescue operation.
“We want to assure the public, particularly her relations and those concerned, that we will rescue her unhurt soon and the perpetrators will be apprehended.
“We have embarked on scientific investigation on the kidnap case.
“And we are optimistic that the senator will be rescued very soon.”
