23-year-old Spanish midfielder, Oriol Romeu has completed a permanent transfer to Southampton in a £5m three-year deal.
Romeu joined Chelsea from Barcelona in 2011 and went on to feature over 30 times for the current English champions.
For the past two seasons, Romeu who appeared not to be in Jose Mourinho’s plans went on loan to Bundesliga outfit, Stuttgart and Spanish side, Valencia.
A statement on Chelsea’s website read:
“Chelsea Football Club has agreed terms with Southampton for the permanent transfer of Oriol Romeu.
The 23-year-old joins the Saints after four years as a Chelsea player in which he made 33 appearances, scoring once from the penalty spot against Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2012. We thank Oriol for his service and wish him luck for his future career. “
Speaking after joining the Saints, Romeu noted that regular soccer was a factor in his decision. “After spending two years on loan, I needed something permanent and a club with a future – and I think I chose the right one,” he said.
