Former Atletico Madrid star Eduardo Salvio is on the run from police after allegedly running over his ex-wife, according to reports in Argentina.
Salvio plays for Primera Division side Boca Juniors, based in the capital city Buenos Aires, and counts Atletico and Portuguese side Benfica among his former clubs.
Argentinean outlet Ole stated that the 31-year-old, who received 14 caps for Argentina, was accused of driving his car at former partner Magali Aravena.
Dramatic footage on social media shows Salvio sensationally speeding away from police, who vowed he ‘will not escape’. The caption on the video says: ‘Boca player Eduardo Salvio is at large after trying to run over his wife.
‘Here’s footage of when he escaped from the police.’
Aravena and Salvio recently split up after 10 years of marriage which gave them two children.
Buenos Aires police have opened an investigation after the 35-year-old reported an incident in the early hours of Thursday morning, in which Salvio allegedly drove his car towards Aravena in the Puerto Madero neighbourhood.
A source close to the investigation stated: ‘Prosecutors are working to collect evidence. Salvio won’t escape from the police. They have learned about what happened from the report his wife made.’
A police spokesman said: ‘The woman went over to speak with her husband, who was in his car with another woman. The suspect drove forward, and struck Mrs Aravena.’
Buenos Aires ambulance chief Alberto Crescenti added: ‘We were called by city police, and found a woman with trauma to her lower right leg. However the injury was light, and she wasn’t taken to hospital.’
Salvio signed for Spanish giants Atletico in 2010, winning two Europa League titles in his stint at the club which saw him score 10 goals in 69 games in all competitions, before he joined Benfica.
He enjoyed eight successful seasons in Portugal which saw 62 times in 266 matches in all competitions and 14 trophies, including five Primeira Liga titles, two Portuguese Cups, and four Portuguese League Cups.
After moving back to his home country with Boca in July 2019, Salvio won the league title and Copa Argentina in his first season. He has scored 13 goals in 44 games in all competitions in his time with the Blue and Golds.
