BOSTON, USA – Jack Teixeira, a former member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for stealing and sharing classified information online.
The sentencing took place on Tuesday in the U.S. District Court in Massachusetts, where Judge Indira Talwani presided over the case.
Teixeira, who had been in federal custody since his arrest in April 2023, pleaded guilty in March to six counts of willfully retaining and transmitting national defense information under the Espionage Act.

Teixeira’s unauthorised activities involved transcribing and sharing sensitive documents on Discord, a popular social media platform among online gamers.
The documents, which he shared beginning in early 2023, included information on U.S. military aid to Ukraine and details about foreign adversaries’ plans to target American forces.
His actions were uncovered after classified information he posted on Discord surfaced publicly in March 2023, prompting a federal investigation.
The 22-year-old had been serving at Otis Air National Guard Base on Cape Cod as a cyber transport systems journeyman.
Teixeira held a top-secret security clearance since mid-2021, which granted him access to sensitive national defense information.
Despite receiving extensive training on the proper handling of classified material, Teixeira misused his access and began leaking classified data to a small group on Discord.
Investigation and Arrest
Following the discovery of the leaked documents, the FBI swiftly identified Teixeira as the source. He was arrested in North Dighton, Massachusetts, in April 2023.
Authorities cited Teixeira’s extensive sharing of national defense information without authorization, which included transcribing documents on foreign threats and ongoing U.S. defense activities.
Prosecutors contended that the leaks compromised American security, even as they acknowledged that Teixeira did not appear to act with any foreign entity.
