The last-minute collapse of David De Gea’s proposed transfer to Real Madrid from Manchester United was one of the biggest dramas of the summer transfer window. Both clubs had traded blames on whose fault it was that the deal didn’t go through before transfer deadline in Spain.
It now appears that the 24-year-old Spanish goalkeeper has abandoned the idea of joining Real Madrid. Speculations are rife that De Gea will sign a new contract with the Old Trafford club which will see him earn £200,000 weekly.
De Gea’s agent, Jorge Mendes met with manager, Louis Van Gaal and other Manchester United club officials at the club’s Carrington training ground on Thursday. The goalkeeper’s future is said to be the reason for that meeting.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez recently stated that the Spanish giants are no longer keen to sign De Gea
“De Gea has to do what is best for his career. We are not contemplating that he comes next year,” he said.
It is reported that De Gea does not blame his current club for the collapse of the Real Madrid deal and is open to mending fences with the club which he hasn’t featured for this season.
It won’t come as a surprise to many if De Gea is in goal for Manchester United when they face Liverpool on Saturday.
