Following Embarrassing Defeat To Labour Party, Senator Nnamani Quits PDP

Must read

Enugu East Senator Chimaroke Nnamani announced his formal withdrawal from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after being defeated by the Labour Party’s (LP) Kevin Chukwu in the recent election. Chukwu won the seat by obtaining 69,136 votes, while Nnamani received 48,701 votes.

The election took place last Saturday, March 18, 2023, following the tragic murder of former LP candidate Oyibo Chukwu just three days prior to the originally scheduled February 25 date.

In a statement released on Monday, March 20, 2023, Nnamani explained that after consulting with his associates and constituents, he had decided to leave the PDP due to irreconcilable differences with the party’s national leadership.

The former Enugu State governor, who had openly expressed support for President-elect Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was expelled from the PDP weeks before the 2023 general elections over alleged anti-party activities.

Despite his departure from the PDP, Nnamani reaffirmed his connection with the President-elect and pledged to continue collaborating with him. In the statement, Nnamani thanked his constituents for their unwavering support throughout the years and expressed hope that his contributions to the development of his constituency would serve as a foundation for future progress.
