Five labourers at a construction site had been arrested by the officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Nasarawa State for allegedly gang-raping a 14-year-old girl who sold sachet water in the area.
The suspects according to the state Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Andekin Musa, were working at the Doma Local Government Area Market as at the time of the incident.
The accused included a 37-year-old Mr. Wada Mohammed, 36-year-old Mr. Tanko Adamu, Mr. Abubakar Ogachi ,40, Mr. Yusuf Ogar, 35 and 35-year-old Mr. Samaila Ali.
Investigations are currently ongoing into the rape case and according to Musa, the suspects would be prosecuted thereafter if found guilty.
He said, “The rape took place on January 30, while arrests were made on February 1. They have all confessed to committing the offence.”
It was learnt that two among the suspects were arrested on Sunday, February 1, 2015 around Tudun Laraba community in Doma, following a tip-off while the three other suspects were later arrested on the same day in the Doma Market, according to Punch.
Musa further disclosed that the incident took place on Friday, January 30, 2015 when four of the suspects lured the victim into an uncompleted building beside the Doma Market subsequently raped her one after the other.
“They tricked her into the building, saying they would buy all the sachets of water, but raped her.”
The fifth victim was revealed during the investigation of the four arrested suspects.
Musa said, “From our investigation, the suspects have been in the habit of raping underage girls. We have been receiving reports of similar cases in that area,” he said
One of the suspects identified as Ali who regretted his action said, “I have a wife and three children and I have never done this kind of thing before. It is the devil that pushed me to do it.”
Meanwhile, the father of the victim, Mallam Umar Mohammed, lauded the efforts of the NSCDC officials for their immediate response regarding the incident.
