Staff and students of the Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo town, Ondo State, have been thrown into mourning as a final year student of the college, Timilehin Akinsiku, slumped and died while on excursion to a tourist location in Osun State.
This is a double dose of bad news for the institution as three of its workers, Pastor Folorunso Akinseye and Mrs Beatrice Akinseye and another Pastor Festus Akinsoyinu Fadakinte along with seven others died in an auto crash at Kajola village, near Ore, just about two weeks ago.
According to the Vanguard’s report, the final year student was said to have died while on excursion to Erin-Ijesa waterfall in Osun State. He visited the popular site with other students and executive members of the Student Union Government, SUG, of the institution.
The excursion to the tourist centre was to be the highlight of the annual students’ union week in the institution.
Late Timilehin was in the English Language Department of the college.
All the students that reportedly embarked on the excursion were hale and hearty and in joyful mood as they climbed the hill. However, while the students were descending the hill as the deceased reportedly kept complaining of tiredness and diziness to his colleagues.
While some of his colleagues tried to relieve him, he was said to have lost consciousness.
He was reportedly carried down from the hill and rushed from the tourist centre to a hospital in Ilesha , where further efforts to revive him by medical staff proved abortive.
Timilehin was later confirmed dead by the medical personnel, who attended to him in the hospital he was rushed to by his colleagues and workers at the tourist centre.
His death was considered mysterious due to the fact that all those that took part in the excursion showed no sign of sickness. The Student Union Government President, Isiaka Kamorudeen, dispelled the possibility of any foul play during the excursion.
