This is the incredible moment a fighter pilot landed his faulty jet on a STOOL.
US Marine Corps Capt William Mahoney realised there was a problem with his landing gear shortly after taking off from a ship.
After speaking to his superiors, they told him then only option available was to land on the stool.
“They told the ship had this amazing invention that was basically a stool that was built for this reason,” said Capt Mahoney.
This incredible video footage shows how Capt Mahoney then hovered the jet above the ship’s deck with the stool below.
“I never saw the stool,” he said. “I remember my main gear hitting and my nose dropping. It dropped more than I expected. I do not remember feeling it bounce like it did on the video tape. I remember feeling it hit and that was it.
“It was a pretty big relief. I did not realise how much I was shaking until I got out of the aircraft.”
Capt Mahoney landed the jet faultlessly on the USS Bataan on June 7.
However, he was later told the crew of the vessel evacuated the landing deck just in case he crashed.
