Following the recent spate of Boko Haram attacks on schools in the North East, the Federal Government has moved to shut down five Unity Schools in Yobe, Borno and Adamawa states.
This was disclosed in Abuja on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 by the Special Assistant to Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike. He stated that the schools were considered to be located “within the high security risk areas of the North-East geo-political zone.”
The decision was informed by reports submitted by the principals of the unity schools in the three states after terrorist sect, Boko Haram, last Tuesday attacked Federal Government College, Buni Yadi, Yobe State, killing no fewer than 30 students.
The affected schools are Federal Government Girls College, Munguno and Federal Science and Technical College, Lassa in Borno; Federal Government College, Potiskum and Federal Government College, Buni Yadi in Yobe; as well as Federal Science and Technical College, Michika, Adamawa.
According to the statement, the minister has approved that candidates that registered for the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, the National Examination Council and Basic Education Certificate Examination in FGGC, Potiskum, should have their examination centres relocated to FGGC, Bauchi.
