NAN – President Goodluck Jonathan said on Monday the Federal Government had executed 638 development projects in Gombe State in furtherance of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
Jonathan stated this at a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Rally in Gombe, Gombe State.
He assured that if reelected, the PDP-led government at both the federal and state levels, would continue to create opportunities for the economic development of the people of the state.
“Through the MDGs (Millennium Development Goals), we have intervened in more than 600 projects in this state, about 638 projects.
“There is no local government that you will go to that you will not see the sign of the Federal Government.
“Through the Universal Basic Education, we have intervened severally in post primary basic education.
“With the TETFUND, we have intervened in the tertiary institutions, including the state owned institutions.
“So, people of Gombe State, as you enter the train to move, that is the way PDP will move this state.
“All you have to do is to join us, join your governor, your governor is somebody I know very well, he was the accountant general of the federation since the time I was a deputy governor.
“And I have been interacting with him since I was a deputy governor; he is a committed man; he is an accountant that will lead this state to where we want to go.
“We will work with him to make sure that whatever you need, you will get. All you have to do is to join PDP, work with PDP.
“So, as the trains are moving, Gombe will continue to move.“
The President commended the PDP government in the state for its development efforts and assured that the people would benefit from the 40 megawatts Dadin Kowa Dam Power Project soon, through steady supply of electricity.
He reiterated the determination of the Federal Government to create two million new jobs annually, if reelected.
In his remarks, Vice-President Namadi Sambo said Jonathan had approved the resuscitation of the Dadin Kowa Irrigation Scheme to boost socio-economic activities in the state.
According to Sambo, it is the desire of the PDP government to create more millionaires among young farmers through efficient use of the revived irrigation programme.
Earlier, the state governor, Ibrahim Dankwambo, commended Jonathan for executing various projects as well as appointing indigenes of the state to key Federal Government positions.
Also speaking, the Minister of Transport, Sen. Idris Umar, thanked Jonathan for reviving the Gombe NNPC Depot and the Gombe-Bauchi-Jos-Kafanchan-Port Harcourt railway line.
The Deputy Director-General, PDP Presidential Campaign Team, Northern Zone, Alhaji Kabir Tanimu, dismissed the insinuation that the present administration had been unfair to Nigerians of Northern extraction in terms of appointment to key positions at the federal level.
To buttress his point, he identified vice-president Sambo, Senate President David Mark, Speaker House of Representatives Aminu Tambuwal and the Chief Justice of the Federation, Mahmoud Mohammed as Northerners.
He, therefore, charged the electorate in the state to be wary of politicians that would use ethnicity or religion to score cheap political goals.
Tanimu, who is also the Minister of Special Duties, called on people of the state to vote en masse for President Jonathan and other PDP candidates in the Feb. 14 and 28 elections.
