The Federal Government has commenced the sharing of N8.5 billion to 144,000 households in Katsina State.
The distribution to the underprivileged families is under the Conditional Cash Transfer, CCT, Scheme.
Shafi’u Abdullahi, the state coordinator, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the money would be shared to the beneficiaries in two phases.
“We are sharing N4.250 billion. After 10 days, we will share the remaining N4.250 billion, which takes the total money to be shared to N8.5billion.”
The disbursement, he explained, was earlier suspended because the government wanted the funds to the right people.
Abdullahi disclosed that each female beneficiary will get N5,000 every month for one year, a total of N60,000.
“We have started to pay half of the amount (N30,000) to over 144,000 households. We will complete the remaining half in the next 10 days,” he added.
The coordinator said the programme had been implemented in 12 out of the 34 Local Government Areas in Katsina.
Some of the LGAs that have benefited include Batagarawa, Daura, Ingawa, and Bindawa.
