Bishop Oyedepo Announces Gov’t Approval for Private Airstrip at Canaanland

OTTA, Nigeria — The Nigerian Federal Government has approved the construction of a private airstrip at Faith Tabernacle, Canaanland, the headquarters of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, commonly known as Winners Chapel.

The church’s founder, Bishop David Oyedepo, made the announcement during the Tehillah Night Special Edition at Covenant University Chapel on Sunday, October 6, 2024.

Bishop Oyedepo revealed that the airstrip will serve as a direct transportation route for himself and other members of the church, eliminating the need to travel to commercial airports for flights.

“I am sure you will be glad to know that the Federal Government has approved an airstrip for Canaanland,” Oyedepo told the congregation.

“I won’t need to fly a helicopter to the airport. I can leave from here to wherever I am going. Members with their planes will have where to land and park.”

The airstrip is expected to significantly ease transportation for worshippers and visitors attending large-scale events hosted by the church, particularly during programmes that attract thousands from across the globe.

In his remarks, Oyedepo also spoke about the successes of Covenant University graduates, highlighting how several of them now serve as pilots flying him to various destinations.

“Won’t you be glad to know that there are some captains that fly me who are graduates of Covenant University? We don’t have an aviation department here, but they found their place in God and went after it,” he said.

“That’s what this university is all about—it’s not about boxing you up. It’s about allowing you to locate God’s plan and pursue it accordingly. Young people, don’t play away your life, you don’t have a spare.”

The Tehillah Night event, held at Covenant University Chapel in Otta, was a special thanksgiving program in honor of Oyedepo, who celebrated his 70th birthday in September.

The announcement of the airstrip approval is seen as part of the ongoing infrastructural expansion at Canaanland, further positioning the church as a self-reliant entity in terms of both development and logistics.
