ILORIN, Nigeria – Fuji music star, Okunola Saheed, better known as Osupa, has decided to withdraw his legal case against controversial singer Badmus Okikiola, popularly known as Portable.
Osupa’s solicitor, Ahmed Opalekunde, confirmed the filing for the withdrawal of the case at the Upper Area Court 1, High Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.
The legal case, which began after Osupa accused Portable of criminal defamation, intimidation, cyberstalking, and inciting public disturbance, was initiated following a direct complaint to the Kwara State Police Command.
The petition, filed by Osupa, cited violations under Section 392 (Criminal Defamation), Section 114 (Inciting Disturbance), Section 397 (Criminal Intimidation) of the Penal Code, and Sections 24(1)(b) and 24(2)(c) of the Cybercrimes Act, 2015, as well as Sections 10 and 13 of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law, 2020.
Osupa’s decision to withdraw the case comes after intervention from notable stakeholders within the music industry and society.
The lawyer explained that the parties involved had pleaded with Osupa to resolve the issue peacefully out of court.
Consequently, Osupa agreed to settle the matter amicably.
The withdrawal letter, however, included a strong warning to Portable, urging him to cease any further actions that could damage Osupa’s reputation.
The letter read, “It’s our client’s (nominal complainant) instruction that the stakeholders in the music industry and other notable personalities in society have intervened in the matter and pleaded to the nominal complainant to withdraw the case against the defendant in the interest of public peace. We hereby, on behalf of our client, apply to withdraw the case against the defendant and terminate it accordingly as the matter had been resolved amicably.”
The letter also cautioned Portable against making any further defamatory publications or utterances about Osupa, stating, “We want to pray the court to admonish and warn the defendant to desist from any further publications, utterances, and any other acts aiming at disparaging the person and businesses of the nominal complainant.”
The legal dispute stemmed from a live-streamed video posted by Portable on March 19, 2025, in which he accused Osupa of jealousy and attempts to sabotage his career.
In the viral video, Portable claimed that Osupa was responsible for removing his music from streaming platforms like Apple Music and Spotify, actions that allegedly hindered his income.
The video was widely circulated, and Osupa described the comments as harmful to his reputation, causing public unrest and damaging his professional standing.
Following the incident, Osupa filed the legal complaint, which led to Portable’s arrest by the Kwara State Police.
On Monday, April 14, 2025, Chief Magistrate Sunday Adeniyi granted Portable bail in the sum of N1 million, with two sureties, one of whom must be the chairman of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, while the other must own land in the Government Reserve Area within the jurisdiction of the court.
