ABUJA, Nigeria – The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has arraigned an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Achigili Raph Ogili, and two others, Sunday Okpara and Rasaq Abdulrahaman Dabiri, over allegations of conspiracy and falsification of documents.
According to a statement released on Friday, July 7, 2023, by the Commission’s Spokesperson, Azuka Ogugua, the trio were brought before Justice J. E. Obanor of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court 29, sitting in Jabi, Abuja.
The ICPC alleges in Charge No: CR/321/2023 that Ogili, the first defendant, used a forged University of Abuja statement of result with Registration Number 2720700176 to support his application for a promotion within the Corps.
He is also accused of forging a letter confirming the falsified statement of result as genuine, which was allegedly written by the Deputy Registrar (Academics) of the University.
Okpara and Dabiri, the second and third defendants, are being charged for their complicity in the forgery of the letter confirming the falsified statement of result as authentic.
The alleged offenses are contrary to sections 96 and 366 and punishable under sections 364 and 368 of the Penal Code Act, Cap 532, Laws of the FCT, Abuja 2006.
Upon the reading of the charges, all three defendants pleaded “not guilty”. Their attorneys, in three separate motions, requested bail, which was not opposed by the prosecution counsel, Dorathy Suleman.
Justice Obanor set bail at Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N500,000) for each of the defendants and required a surety of equal amount who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
The case has been adjourned until October 30 and 31, 2023, for the commencement of the hearing.
