On Thursday, August 27, 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari made several key federal appointments, including the long awaited Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
Following the appointments, well-meaning Nigerians took to social media platform, Twitter to vent over what they termed lack of Federal Character in the President’s appointments so far.
As at the time of filing this report, Federal Character was still a trending topic on Twitter.

With federal character you can find competence if you want to. It is very important for the very coexistence of the nations within #Nigeria

Obasanjo reflected Federal Character in the pursuit of merit and competence same with Jonathan. Sadly, Buhari represents ethnic bigotry!

Left for me, let's officially abolish federal character, but now that it is still in our guide book, we just have to obey and respect same

Federal Character is entrenched in the Nigerian constitution. You cannot decide whether to comply or not except you are a dictator.

I have always argued against federal character but sometimes we need it to keep Nigeria, a multi-cultural nation together as an entity.
— Lives Matter Healthcare Initiative (@myunicy) August 28, 2015
Balancing of Geopolitical interests is key to Federal Character. This was not fully explored in the recent appointments by PMB. One Nigeria!
