Adam Nuhu, the managing director of First City Monument Bank, FCMB, who is at the centre of an adultery and paternity scandal has proceeded on leave from the bank.
Nuhu, who is married, is accused of having extra marital affairs with a married woman, Moyo Lawal, who was a staff of FCMB, and fathering two children with her.
According to the allegation, Lawal’s estranged husband, Tunde Thomas, died on December 16, 2020 from heart attack after battling with depression on the news that his two children were not his biological children, but were allegedly fathered by the FCMB MD.
Reports say, the deceased only got the revelation from his estranged wife after she had relocated to America with the two children.
According to the deceased friends, Lawal resigned from FCMB and relocated to America with the children, a boy and a girl, before informing Thomas that he was not the biological father of the children.
Over 1,000 people had signed a petition to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), calling for the sack of Nuru.
On Saturday, January 2, 2021, the bank released a statement saying its Board of Directors had commenced an investigation into the matter.
In new development, Nuhu has stepped aside from his duty at the bank pending the investigation.
In an internal mail sent to all staff of FCMB on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 the embattled MD announced his plans to embark on leave immediately to allow the board to carry out an independent review of the circumstances surrounding the reports.
