The newly inaugurated governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, had on Saturday, October 25, 2014 held a meeting with principals of secondary schools in the state.
During the meeting which took place at the Adetiloye Hall in Ado Ekiti, Fayose in his bid to appreciate the schools for their support through the duration of his impeachment profusely wept, prostrated and rolled on the floor.
According to reports, he hailed the teachers for being steadfast in their loyalty to him. He said that it was their love and support that brought him to power once again.
During the event, the governor broke down in tears amidst rounds of applause from the teachers who further praised him with various songs which left Fayose speechless for some minutes.
The Governor who later delivered a speech promised to pay their two-months salaries arrears and other benefits owed them during the tenure of his predecessor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, adding other benefits that would motivate them to put in more efforts to salvage the education sector from the decline experienced during his predecessor”s reign.
“I knew how I was able to partner with you to bring Ekiti from 35th to sixth position. I will still do the same now. Before any payment to political appointees, you will be the first to be considered. During my first term, I met a deplorable education sector, but with your support, I overcame.
“But it was so bad and disheartening that rather than for ex-Governor Fayemi to face human capital development, he believed in building a N3.3 billion Governor’s Lodge for his own comfort at the expense of you workers.”
