ADO-EKITI, Nigeria – Ayo Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti State, has made a startling disclosure, admitting he fully worked against the presidential aspiration of People’s Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, Atiku Abubakar, during the recent February 25 election.
Fayose defended his stance on Sunday, July 9, 2023, while appearing on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’.
He also confessed that he isn’t afraid of expulsion from the PDP for his actions, which could be seen as anti-party activities.
Despite his actions, the former governor declared he has no plans to join the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, even in the wake of President Bola Tinubu’s victory.
“I am still a member of the PDP unless they say ‘Fayose, we don’t want you anymore.’ I will never join the APC,” Fayose asserted.
Throughout the interview, Fayose expressed his admiration for President Tinubu, whom he regards as the new leader of the Yoruba race.
The two-term governor recalled placing birthday adverts in major newspapers to celebrate Tinubu during his time as Ekiti governor.
“Even when the APC was playing games, I stood up to remind President Buhari that Asiwaju was instrumental in his becoming president of Nigeria. As a Yoruba man, he deserves respect,” Fayose said.
Despite his cross-party admiration for Tinubu, Fayose categorically stated that he worked against Atiku during the recent election.
“I worked against him (Atiku) 100 per cent. Nigeria is bigger than the PDP, APC, and even Asiwaju himself,” Fayose stated.
Finally, he made it clear that even if he was expelled from the PDP, he wouldn’t feel slighted, expressing hope that his sacrifice for Nigeria’s unity would be recognized someday. He also clarified that despite his actions, he still loves the PDP.
