IBADAN, Nigeria – A road accident that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, June 17, 2023, on the Ibadan-Oyo Expressway has led to the death of four people, while injuring 13 others.
The accident involved a Toyota Hummer bus with registration number JJJ 841 XA, which somersaulted due to over speeding and overloading.
All 20 passengers aboard were male, and their destination was to the North.
The bus, designed to carry 14 passengers, was overloaded with 20 passengers at the time of the accident.
Atiba Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corp, FRSC, Bayode Olugbesan, confirmed the accident to journalists.
He revealed that the four deceased victims were confirmed dead at the State Hospital, Oyo, and their bodies had been taken to a mortuary.
Echoing Olugbesan’s sentiments, the FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Mr Joshua Adekanye, urged motorists to avoid over speeding.
Adekanye confirmed the incident and emphasized the importance of following traffic rules and regulations in a phone conversation with reporters.
The survivors of the accident have been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The authorities have appealed to drivers to maintain caution while driving and adhere to the specified speed limits to prevent such tragic incidents.
