At exactly 9.45am, one-time aviation minister of Nigeria and spokesman of the Goodluck Jonathan campaign organization during the 2015 general elections, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, appeared before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, May 9, 2016.
Fani-Kayode was honouring an official invitation by the agency delivered to his Abuja home on Friday, May 6, 2016. He arrived in the company of his lawyers with police escorts.
Soon after the EFCC delivered the invitation letter to the Asokoro home of the former aviation minister, the agency decided to lay siege on his home. In a dramatic turn of events, as journalists began to arrive at the scene, the EFCC agents hurriedly dispersed in confusion.`
According to unofficial press leaks from the EFCC, Fani-Kayode is being questioned in connection with an alleged N840 million his division in the campaign received for publicity in the last days of the 2015 campaigns.
Fani-Kayode has published a number of articles detailing his involvement with the Goodluck Jonathan campaign and denied ever receiving money from the erstwhile national security adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd) whom the government accuses of diverting $2.1 billion money meant for arms purchases.
