KANO, Nigeria — A devastating family tragedy has struck Kano, Nigeria, as a 22-year-old man, Ibrahim Musa, was accused of stabbing his biological mother, Hajara Mohammed, 50, to death.
The Senior Magistrates’ Court in Kano ordered Musa to be remanded in a correction center on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.
Musa, a resident of Bachirawa Quarters Kano, faces charges of culpable homicide.
Prosecution Counsel Mrs. Rabi’a Sa’ad informed the court that the crime occurred on May 3 at Rimin Kebe Quarters Kano.
Sa’ad alleged that the defendant used a sharp knife to stab his mother multiple times around 6 p.m. that day.
“As a result, she sustained various injuries and was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor,” Sa’ad said.
Despite the accusations, Musa pleaded not guilty to the charge. The police maintain that the crime contravenes the provisions of Section 221 of the Penal Code.
Senior Magistrate Ibrahim Almustafa-Kofarmata ordered the case file to be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, for legal advice.
The matter has been adjourned until June 27 for further mention.
