Must read

LAGOS, Nigeria – Award-winning Nollywood actress Iniobong Edo publicly declared that she regretted her five-year marriage to American businessman Philip Ehiagwina.

Edo, who is globally recognized for her work in the Nigerian film industry, spoke candidly about her past, her struggles with fertility, and her decision to become a mother through surrogacy.

The actress, known professionally as Ini Edo, married Ehiagwina on November 29, 2008. The union, however, ended in divorce after five years.

Speaking with media personality Chude Jideonwo on Saturday, June 24, 2023, Edo confessed that her decision to marry was influenced primarily by family pressure.

“I regretted my decision to get married because it wasn’t just the right move to make,” Edo confessed during the emotional interview.

Her statement underscored a prevalent issue in many cultures — the societal and familial pressures that often prompt women to enter into marriages they are uncertain of.

But regret has not completely soured Edo on the concept of matrimony. She hinted at the possibility of walking down the aisle again, saying, “I would get married again if the right person comes.”

This openness towards the prospect of remarriage illuminates the resilient spirit that has endeared her to fans worldwide.

In a part of the interview that is sure to resonate with many women, Edo opened up about her struggles with fertility, and her decision to have a child through surrogacy.

“I chose surrogacy because I had a couple of miscarriages. And I just got tired of trying,” she said.

She explained that despite not having a husband, she still wanted to experience motherhood.

“I want a child for myself whether I have a husband or not. So, what other options would I have? And I wanted it to be my child. My eggs. Thankfully, my eggs are good. So I did that.”

In 2021, Edo announced the arrival of her first child, a girl, born through surrogacy.

With her courageous public disclosure about her personal life, Edo continues to be a trailblazer — not just on the screens of Nollywood, but in the way she embraces the complexities of womanhood.
