ANAMBRA – A father has been charged with murder after he shot his son to death in Ezieke Umuolhi Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The polygamous father, Chief Nicholas Anamene, who has ten wives, allegedly shot Ugochukwu Anamene over polygamous family brawl.
The deceased, who was a J.S. 2 dropout, was laid to rest in his fathers compound last weekend as hundreds trooped in to witness the sad event.
Following his arrest, Anamene was immediately taken to court where he was charged murder. Speaking to pressmen, he didn’t say exactly who he wanted to shoot when he mistakenly shot his son.
Anamene said, “I mistakenly shot at my son around 8.30 p.m. and fainted when I discovered I shot him to death.”
The court was told that there was a quarrel between Anamene and one of his wives Ngozi Anamene, who he had planned to kill at 8.30 p.m; but that on sighting somebody entering the compound, who had thought was his wife Ngozi, he opened fire on his son who slumped and died.

The case has been adjourned to January 22nd 2014. The accused has been transferred to Onitsha Federal Prisons awaiting trial.
