Residents of Itamaga area in Ikorodu, Lagos state had their Independence day celebrations truncated as a family of five – a mother and her four sons – were found dead and decomposing in their residence at number 8, Kunle Owoade close, Vanguard reports.
Neighbours said the family was last seen on Friday, September 26, 2014 until Tuesday, September 30, 2014 when they were found by neighbours who broke into the apartment after offensive odour began emanating from within.
Eyewitnesses say three of the children were found in a room, while the youngest was with the mother. Three bodies were already decomposing while one died while being rushed to the hospital.
The cause of the deaths could not be ascertained, athough many suspect food poisoning.
Attempts by sympathizers to contact emergency service in the state proved abortive as no response as forthcoming while officers of the Ikorodu police division who were called to the scene offered close to no help, as they were reportedly scared on grounds of Ebola virus.
