KADUNA, Nigeria – Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has dismissed rumours that he will become the chief of staff to President-elect Bola Tinubu after his term ends on May 29, 2023.
Instead, El-Rufai announced his intentions to remain in the private sector, contributing to Nigeria’s development in a different capacity.
El-Rufai’s close relationship with Tinubu during the election campaign had sparked speculation that he was being considered for the influential chief of staff position.
However, El-Rufai ended these rumours during the commissioning of the Gombe Geographic Information Systems Service Centre on Saturday, May 6, 2023.
“I will be leaving in 22 days, but I will be available anytime you need a troublemaker,” El-Rufai said. “I will be in the private sector, I’m not going to be any chief of staff. I will take a break and advise people like Governor Inuwa Yahaya if they need it.”
During the event, El-Rufai also performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the 550-unit Shongo Homes and Gardens, a housing development under the Family Homes Fund in Gombe State.
As he prepares to leave office, the governor seems determined to maintain a presence in Nigeria’s development, albeit in a different role than initially speculated.
