The Lagos State Government has deleted the list of contracts awarded by former Governor of the state, Babatunde Fashola from the official website of the state’s Public Procurement Agency,www.lagosppa.gov.ng.
The website, which revealed Fashola’s N78 million expenditure on the upgrading of his website and other perceived phony projects running into billions of Naira.
According to Punch, as at Monday, August 24, 2015, all contracts awarded by Fashola between 2013 and 2014 were not able to be accessed.
Reacting to the development, the Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL), said secrecy was one of the trademarks of successive Lagos State governments.
Debo Adeniran, the CACOL Executive Chairman, also added that that was why the state government failed to implement the Freedom of Information Act.
He said: “The development gives credence to the belief that the state government’s activities are shrouded in secrecy. They believe that the government is a cult and only the initiates should have information.
“It is for this reason that the Freedom of Information Act has been frustrated by state governments, especially Lagos. Such websites are only accessible when the state government’s have some interests to serve.”
When sought for confirmation, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, Habib Aruna, denied knowledge of the development.
When contacted, Fashola’s spokesperson, Hakeem Bello, refused to pick calls or reply text messages.
