ENUGU, Nigeria – The Police Command in Enugu State announced on Saturday, July 8, 2023, that it had recovered the lifeless bodies of four suspected sit-at-home enforcers, who had reportedly been hit by bullets and later succumbed to their injuries.

In a statement issued in Enugu, the Command’s Spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, stated that a combined team of tactical police operatives found the bodies of the four male individuals in a forest behind the G. Ede Filling Station/7-Up in Awkunanaw, Enugu.

According to Ndukwe, the development followed the earlier report of police operatives dispersing armed subversive elements who had attempted to enforce an illegal sit-at-home order in the early hours of July 7, 2023.

“Recall that the Operatives intercepted the criminals at One-Day, Awkunanaw, Enugu, as they were snatching an ENTRACO branded Sharon minivan from its driver at gunpoint,” Ndukwe said.

“They engaged the operatives in a gun duel, but escaped with varying degrees of fatal gunshot wounds, due to the superior firepower of the police operatives.”

Ndukwe added that the subsequent manhunt operation resulted in the discovery of the four bodies.

A search of the hijacked vehicle led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle loaded with 19 live 7.62 caliber ammunition, two bottles of petrol bombs, and other incriminating evidence.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Ahmed Ammani, reiterated that the police and other security agencies would remain unwavering in their efforts to maintain maximum security for law-abiding citizens to carry out their lawful activities.

Ndukwe concluded his statement by quoting the Commissioner, “The commissioner, however, solicits residents’ continued support.”
