Emir Sanusi Calls Down Fire on ‘Troublemakers of Kano’

Must read

KANO, Nigeria – The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, has called for peace and unity among residents, urging them to respect the law and work together to maintain stability and harmony in the state.

The appeal came during a special Iftar (breaking of fast) at his palace on Sunday, March 23, 2025, where the emir condemned those opposing his reinstatement and warned of dire consequences for those inciting unrest.

Sanusi, who was reinstated as emir after a prolonged dispute, expressed his frustration with those challenging his leadership.

“Fire would consume those inciting unrest in the city,” he declared, adding that those disputing his emirship were defying God’s will.

“They will ultimately face unfortunate consequences for opposing what has been divinely ordained.”

In his remarks, the emir emphasised the importance of patience and prayer, urging residents to remain steadfast and peaceful.

“We urge everyone to maintain peace. This issue is beyond us; it is about God’s will, and He needs no one’s assistance,” he stated in Hausa.

He further stated, “Let us be patient and continue praying, for God will always support those on the right path.”

Sanusi’s statement was a direct response to the ongoing turmoil surrounding his emirship.

Tensions over the throne have continued since his reinstatement, with those loyal to the deposed emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, challenging his position.

“May fire consume anyone seeking to cause trouble in Kano,” Sanusi added.

“May Allah protect us and our community from all evil. Let us remain peaceful and steadfast in prayer. Whoever challenges God’s judgment will never succeed.”

The remarks come amid plans for a sallah durbar, as directed by Kano’s Governor Abba Yusuf.

The governor instructed all four emirates in the state to prepare for the durbar to ensure a festive and enjoyable period for both citizens and visitors.

Meanwhile, Aminu Ado Bayero, the deposed emir, has informed security agencies of his plans to hold a durbar to mark his fifth year as the city’s monarch.

The dispute over the emirship has been ongoing for months, with a high court in Kano issuing a restraining order against Bayero in May 2024, preventing him from parading himself as emir following Sanusi’s reinstatement.
