Emir of Kano and former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Lamido has made his first official visit to Lagos, holding meetings with the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu and All Progressives chieftain and former governor of Lagos state, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In their meeting at the palace of the Oba, Akiolu beckoned on aggrieved royal families in Kano to cooperate with the Emir in ending activities of terrorists and bring peace to the troubled North, reports say.
On getting wind of the presence of the Emir, Muslims and Hausa youths thronged to the Palace of the Oba in their numbers to welcome him.
Akiolu further urged Sanusi to help the Federal Government in promoting peace and development in Kano state, as he told aggrieved royal families in Kano to do away with the past and wait for their turn.
He said, “Kano and Lagos share a strong affinity, not only economically, but historically. I have always told my sons that after my tenure as the Oba of Lagos, none of them should expect to be crowned the Oba of Lagos. This is because our family is not the only family that is entitled to the throne. Let me appeal to our brothers in the North to accept the new Emir to move the state forward. I can assure you that Sanusi would not support or encourage Boko Haram. This is why I want to call on the aggrieved royal families in Kano State to sheath their sword and forget the past.”
On his part, Sanusi thanked the Oba for his support and and warm welcome, stating that he had always hoped to visit Lagos because of the history and economic relationship of both cities.
In Sanusi’s words: “Lagos and Kano have very strong relationships that have lasted for many years. I want to assure you that I will use my office to maintain that friendship in order to advance the interests of the two states.”
In a related development, Sanusi paid a visit to former Lagos Governor and a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the latter’s residence in Ikoyi, Lagos. Details of the visit have not been made public. Photos of the meeting have been made available by the press team of the Tinubu. See them below.
