Dino Melaye, the spokesman of Atiku Abubakar Presidential Organisation, has been ridiculed online after making a false claim about Nigerian nationalist Nnamdi Azikiwe on National TV.
Naija News reports that Melaye during an interview on Arise TV claimed that many nationalists, including Azikiwe, never became president because they were regional candidates.
According to him, Nigerians are currently aware of the truth about the presidential candidate that will rescue the country.
He noted that Awolowo and Azikiwe are fantastic leaders with every sense of humility but they never made it to become president because they were regional candidates.
In his words: “Nigerians are wiser, Nigerians know the truth, Nigerians know who will rescue them, Nigerians know who will deliver for them, and Nigerians know no regional champion has ever become the president of this country.
“Awolowo was a fantastic leader with every sense of humility, a very refined man, but because he was a regional candidate, he never became a president of this country. Azikiwe was a regional champion, he never became a president of this country.”
Melaye was however corrected by the presenter, Rufai Oseni that Azikiwe was the first president of Nigeria.
Although Dino Melaye attempted to argue with Rufai before he finally succumbed and thanked him.
